About Us
We are The Sibley Group, founded by psychotherapist Allison Sibley, PhD to address the needs of residents in and around Washington, DC. We have a long history of providing family counseling for adults, children, adolescents and their families, and have expanded our team to over 20 specialized therapists who offer appointments in-person in our Chevy Chase and Capitol Hill offices as well as online in order to meet the growing need for services.
At The Sibley Group, our clients find us to be responsive and authentic. We help you to get the help you need quickly and reliably. We match you and your family with a therapist who you’ll connect with and who can provide you with the services you need.
We welcome and honor the broad range of racial, cultural, religious, and neurological diversity that contributes to each person’s unique life experiences and identity. We are also deeply committed to providing a safe space for LGBTQ+ clients. Our entire team engages in ongoing and in-depth training regarding BIPOC issues and Gender Affirming Care. We are aware that we live within a culture that systematically oppresses and causes real harm to BIPOC and LGBTQ individuals, and the mental health field has a troubled history of participating in some of these problems; we strive to provide services that are conscious of, and not contributing to these patterns. We truly value providing a safe, open, and healing space for all.
Our specialties include child therapy and adolescent therapy, adult psychotherapy, couples therapy, and family therapy. Our team includes child and adolescent specialists who provide individual and group counseling to local families. Our wide range of training and experience allows us to help with issues that arise at different stages of life.
Our services include a variety of integrative treatment approaches that include Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), relational psychotherapy, play therapy, Emotionally Focused Couples and Family Therapies (EFT and EFFT), brain-based therapies (EMDR, Brainspotting), and mindfulness-based practices.
Adults and couples with parenting challenges, work and mood problems, and relationship stress often seek our help. Common issues we address include problems with intimacy, impending divorce, separation, loneliness, lack of goal fulfillment, anxiety, depression, anger, conflict, grief, trauma, and communication challenges.
Parents work with us on strategies to improve their child’s behavior both at home and at school. We offer groups for children, teens, and parents. Groups are a way to support and encourage more “real time, real life” opportunities for practicing social and emotional skills.
We help children and adolescents resolve problems with life transitions, behavior, friendships, emotional issues such as depression, anxiety, attention, low self-esteem, grief, regulation problems, family conflicts, and relationship and social or friendship problems.
The Sibley Group has a strong group of therapists — and we can identify the one who is right for you and your family. Our group is big enough to offer choices, and small enough to be personalized and responsive. Each of our therapists is chosen because they are people we would hire to treat ourselves, or our own loved ones.
