Am I Doing Therapy Wrong?

Posted by Jackie Hill

“Am I doing therapy correctly?” is a question I’ve heard more than once from many of my teen and young adult clients in my psychotherapy practice in Washington, DC and nearby Bethesda, MD. My answer is that there is no “right” or “wrong” way to do therapy. Honoring your own process and journey is important.  Although your therapist may challenge ...READ MORE »

Crafting Your Unique Love Map with A Neurotypical Partner

Posted by Allison Sibley

I’m writing this blog after reading David Finch’s hilarious book about learning to be a good husband while discovering what rules he needs to operate as an adequate spouse and as a person with Autism.  In his book, “The Journal of Best Practices: A Memoir of Marriage, Asperger’s Syndrome, and One Man’s Quest to Be a Better Husband.  David ...READ MORE »

Feel Me, Touch Me, Be With Me~ Creating Erotic and Connecting Moments With Your Partner

Posted by Allison Sibley

With Valentine’s Day just behind us, many of us are more aware of our romantic relationships in February.  And yet, the pandemic has truly upended our connections with our lovers and partners in strange and  interesting ways. Esther Perel, famous psychoanalyst and couples therapist in New York City, has discussed the many ways that couples have been impacted by ...READ MORE »

Self Love as a Tool for BIG Love

Posted by Allison Sibley

We all want more, Better, BIGGER LOVE, right?  The question of the month is this–How do we get that?  Yet, when it comes to Feeling More AND Loving More deeply, the better question is this–how can I give (to both myself and my partner) in order to feel more love and loving?  Self love is not selfish–It is a ...READ MORE »

Loving Abundantly With Your Language

Posted by Allison Sibley

I’m writing this month about LOVE! In my last blog, I offered a specific dialogue process to help couples with creating erotic and connecting moments with your partner.  In these next two posts, I want to share some tools that you can use to prepare yourself and your relationship to maximize this dialogue process. Humans don’t really function like ...READ MORE »

Give your Relationship a Leisure Makeover

Posted by Alexander Chan

Having fun together breeds a strong romantic relationship. Decades of observational studies corroborate this claim, and I can also attest to this as a couples therapist in the Washington D.C. and Bethesda area. Shared leisure experiences are strongly tied to both personal wellbeing and relationship stability (i.e., whether the relationship lasts). If you are in a long-term relationship, it ...READ MORE »

Infertility Struggles: Facts and Tips

Posted by Kendra Handy

As many as 1 in 10 couples struggle with infertility but it’s something we rarely talk about.  There seems to be a belief that when we want to start a family is when we will, but the truth is, that’s not always the case, and infertility struggles can feel devastating.  As a maternal mental health specialist working with clients in ...READ MORE »

Loving Your Way Through Depression

Posted by Allison Sibley

This week, I’m writing the 3rd blog post in our series about Dealing with Depression in Your Relationship.  Two weeks ago, we discussed how to discern if you or your partner is dealing with clinical depression, which often requires medication, or situational depression, which is often treated through psychotherapy and behavioral changes in daily habits.  Last week, we reviewed ...READ MORE »

Couples Teaming Up Against Depression

Posted by Allison Sibley

I’m writing this blog as the 2nd in a 3-part series about how to assess, cope with and navigate a relationship where depression is present in you or your spouse.  In my last blog, I shared how couples can discern if they are dealing with chronic, bigger issues of clinical depression versus less severe, more temporary periods of feeling ...READ MORE »

How to Tell if You or Your Partner is Depressed

Posted by Allison Sibley

This blog is the first in a 3-part series, where I want to spend some time talking through how depression plays a part in intimate relationships.  As a couples therapist in Washington DC and nearby Bethesda, MD, I often treat couples where one or both partners is coping with depression. I also treat couples who are undecided about whether ...READ MORE »

New Service Offerings: Mental Health Consultations

TSG is aware of the high level of need for mental health support and treatment for the families in our community and beyond, and an increasingly short supply of available therapists. We are excited to offer new services with immediate daytime availability: Mental Health Consultations. These appointments are a one-time or brief preventive and/or supportive service for individuals and families who are not engaged in therapy at TSG, yet could benefit from consulting with a mental health expert in a variety of ways. Email intake@thesibleygroupdc.com for more information or to schedule a consultation.
