Abi is a passionate and empathetic therapist, dedicated to helping clients reach their potential. Abi joins the practice with experience treating children, teens, families and adults. She has worked in community outpatient and hospital settings helping people overcome a broad range of problems including trauma and loss, mood and anxiety disorders, substance abuse, and much more. Abi has also treated school-aged children and adolescents with such issues as ADHD, behavioral problems, family issues, depression and anxiety.
Abi likes to work using a client-centered approach. She draws upon cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing to help clients make progress towards their goals. She specializes in using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) with both adults and adolescents to help them resolve problems with anxiety, trauma, and unresolved interpersonal issues. Abi is skilled in the implementation of trauma-informed interventions that assist clients in moving past traumatic life events that may still impact their daily lives. Abi is comfortable treating challenging clinical issues as well as doing family work to help children and teens function better and feel better. She has a particular interest in utilizing and incorporating mindfulness practices as well as play therapy techniques into her work with clients, especially when working with children and adolescents.
Abi is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of Virginia, and is credentialed as a National Certified Counselor. Abi received her B.S. in Psychology from Virginia Tech University and her Masters of Arts in Community Counseling from Argosy University.
