Abi is a passionate and empathetic therapist, dedicated to helping clients reach the goals they set for themselves. Abi joins the practice with experience treating children, teens, families and adults. She has worked in community outpatient and hospital settings, helping people overcome a broad range of problems including trauma and loss, mood and anxiety disorders, substance abuse, and much more.
Certified in the cutting-edge treatment called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Abi specializes in treating trauma and anxiety in the adolescent and adult population. EMDR helps clients move past traumatic life events – both large and small – that continue to impact their present lives. This intervention provides people with the ability to work through memories of distressing life experiences in order to permanently change beliefs about themselves that had been developed as a result of those experiences. (You can read more about EMDR here: https://thesibleygroupdc.com/services-family-counseling/teen-therapy-in-dc/). Abi also draws upon cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing to help clients make progress towards their goals, and to identify individualized strategies that clients can use to maintain the progress they’ve made in therapy once treatment is over.
Abi is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of Virginia, and is credentialed as a National Certified Counselor. Abi is a graduate of Virginia Tech and holds a Masters of Arts in Community Counseling.
