Anne-Claire Hervy, MSW, LGSW
Anne-Claire is a Resident Therapist at The Sibley Group, working with individuals across the lifespan as well as families and couples at our Chevy Chase and Georgetown offices and online. She brings prior experience working with adolescents in a school counseling setting and parent training in Adlerian positive discipline. In her sessions, Anne-Claire strives to create a safe, compassionate, and authentic space. She has a warm and calming presence and uses humor to strengthen connections with clients and ease the feelings of vulnerability that come with facing and working on life’s challenges.
Anne-Claire believes strongly in The Sibley Group’s philosophy of a “team approach” to child therapy. This approach places a high value on parent work when working with children and empowering parents in the treatment process. The approach also values collaboration with other supports (teachers, doctors, or other professionals) in working towards treatment goals. She values the client and parents as the experts on their experiences, needs, and goals, while she is committed to providing resources and strategies to teach clients new skills and build on existing strengths in service of healing and increasing resiliency.
Anne-Claire uses different therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), play therapy, psychodynamic approaches, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Imago, Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), and mindfulness. She draws on these modalities to provide a tailored therapy for each client.
Some of Anne-Claire’s approach is also shaped by her life experiences. Having immigrated to the U.S. from France at a young age and growing up in a bi-cultural family, Anne-Claire brings a personal understanding of the joys and challenges of mixed-culture and immigrant families. She has a special interest in working with people who share some of those experiences. As a second career therapist with over a decade working in the nonprofit and international development sector, Anne-Claire also brings an understanding of some of the distinctive aspects of those professional environments.
Anne-Claire’s educational journey is a testament to her commitment to continuous learning and professional growth. She graduated with a BA in Psychology and Art from St. Mary’s College of Maryland, an MA in International History from the London School of Economics, an MA in International Relations from American University, and a graduate certificate from Sciences Po, Paris. Anne-Claire received her MSW from the University of Maryland School of Social Work. She is licensed in DC and Maryland.
