Ilana Kaplan, MSW, LGSW
Ilana is a Resident Therapist at The Sibley Group who works with children, adolescents, and families. She specializes in supporting clients navigating trauma, loss, anxiety, depression, self-esteem challenges, and life transitions, including the transition to college. Ilana believes in the power of a strong therapeutic relationship and approaches therapy as a nonjudgmental, collaborative process, guided by the principle that “there is no correction without connection.”
Ilana has extensive experience supporting diverse client populations and complex family systems. Her work is rooted in cultural humility, sensitivity, and deep respect for each client’s unique background and lived experience. Prior to joining The Sibley Group, she worked in community mental health in Detroit, Michigan, and Washington, D.C., serving multi-system-involved youth with complex trauma histories. She has provided care in office, school, and home-based settings and also brings years of experience working with youth in nonclinical settings through her time at Camp Ramah New England.
Ilana takes an integrative, holistic approach to therapy, drawing from evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Play Therapy, while incorporating psychosomatic interventions to support the mind-body connection. She strives to make therapy engaging and enjoyable by integrating creative activities, art, and games. Her work focuses on fostering resilience and emotional well-being for both individuals and families.
Ilana earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sociology and her Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She holds active social work licenses in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Massachusetts. Outside of her clinical work, she enjoys hiking, creating art, and spending time with friends and family.
