Josh Strauss, MSW, LGSW
Josh is a Resident Therapist at The Sibley Group, working with children, adolescents, and families. He bases his work on the values of nonjudgment, empathy, and authenticity. Josh believes in the power of the therapeutic relationship and is committed to approaching therapy as a collaborative experience.
Josh enjoys helping clients find their worth and discover new ways to communicate and express themselves through play. He utilizes an eclectic, strengths-based approach centered around child-centered play therapy (CCPT)that is informed by concepts from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and psychodynamic theory. Josh has experience working with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, anxiety, depression, and behavioral and emotional regulation challenges. He recognizes that many children enter into the therapy process with hesitancy and doubts about whether or not they belong in therapy. Josh loves to meet these clients where they are and is gracious to have the opportunity to help them gain faith in the therapeutic healing process.
Josh holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Arts in Human Service Studies from Elon University. He has many years of experience working with kids and adolescents of all ages, including various positions at Camp Ramah in New England and clinical positions at the Center for Autism and Clymer Elementary School in Philadelphia. Josh is a Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW) in Washington, D.C., and a Licensed Master’s Social Worker (LMSW) in Maryland and Pennsylvania.
In Josh’s free time, he loves playing and coaching ultimate frisbee, watching football, skiing, attending concerts (ask him his favorite artists!), and cooking soup!
