Kate Anderson, MPP, MA, LGPC, NCC
Kate is a Resident Therapist at The Sibley Group, where she provides compassionate care to teens, adults, and families, both in-person at the Chevy Chase office and online. Her expertise extends to working with children from early childhood through high school, with a particular focus on trauma, abuse, foster care/adoption/guardianship, depression, self-injury (SI), suicidal ideation (SH), ADHD, grief, and loss. Additionally, Kate supports adults navigating major life transitions, such as divorce, immigration and asylum seeking, and the LGBTQIA+ community. Kate is also skilled in supporting clients who have experienced sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and intimate partner violence.
Kate completed her Mary’s Center School-Based Mental Health Program internship in a DC middle school and is currently pursuing her Registered Play Therapist (RPT) credential. Kate has experience in both individual and group therapy settings. As a second career therapist, Kate transitioned to clinical mental health after more than 20
years in education and international policy and development. She understands the stress of DC hustle culture and helps children and parents get to know their “emotional warning systems” to better navigate the complexities of life in a rapidly changing world.
Kate holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Pepperdine University, a Master of Public Policy from Georgetown University, and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The George Washington University. Kate is currently pursuing her PhD in Counseling Education and Supervision at GWU. In her free time, Kate enjoys spending quality time with her partner and three children, preparing feasts for loved ones, reading, camping, and being near water.
