Laurel Tobias, MSW, LGSW
Laurel brings to the Sibley Group a strong social work foundation and client-centered approach to working with children and families. Laurel specializes in treating children ages 4-12 as well as family work focusing on healthy parent/child/familial relationships. She is dedicated to creating a comfortable and inclusive environment for her clients.
Laurel primarily uses directive play therapy techniques, art therapy, sand tray therapy, expressive arts, and bibliotherapy to shape the way she interacts with her young clients. She enjoys being creative with her clients and encourages them to explore many different methods of expressing themselves. She uses cognitive behavioral therapy strategies to help young people become more connected with their thoughts and emotions, and develop self-awareness around how their feelings influence their actions and relationships with others.
Laurel focuses on ensuring her treatment is individualized to meet the needs of each client’s situation and goals. She has experience supporting children with a variety of mental health needs: general stress/life changes, general behavioral concerns, ADHD, Generalized and Social Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, Intellectual & Learning Disabilities, complex illnesses and healthcare needs, and social skill/relationship concerns.
Laurel received her BA in Psychology from North Carolina State University and her MSW from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is licensed as a Graduate Social Worker in both Maryland and Washington, DC. In addition to working at TSG, she also treats children and families at Synergy Family Services in Maryland.
