Lori is a preschool specialist and one of our play therapists. She specializes in working with children ages 3-12 and has more than 15 years experience working with children, families, and schools in the DC Metro area. Lori also works with parents and families with children ages 0-3 to support healthy and enjoyable parent/child/family relationships.
Children look forward to coming to therapy with Lori because it is fun, interactive, and goal-oriented based on the needs of each child and family. Lori supports children with a variety of needs, such as behavioral concerns at home and at school, issues of separation or divorce, signs of anxiety or depression, and family stress. Lori believes that providing parents and children with strategies that they can implement at home and school is essential to success in therapy. Lori also collaborates with schools to foster a successful school experience for each child.
Lori works with families dealing with loss, trauma, or problems with parent-child engagement. She uses Theraplay to help these families connect, build trust, and strengthen relationships in positive, healthy, and meaningful ways. Theraplay-based activities involve both the parent and child in session, working to make children’s positive behaviors grow with the support of the parent(s).
Lori also runs kindergarten-readiness groups to help prepare preschool age children for success in kindergarten. These groups help children build confidence in better understanding social cues, making transitions, following routines, regulating feelings, sharing, listening, taking turns, and initiating play with peers.
Additionally, Lori is a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor (RPT-S) and is available for in-person or distance supervision for therapists working to obtain RPT or RPT-S credentials.
Lori obtained her BA in Psychology from the University of Miami, and her MSW from the Catholic University of America. Lori is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in the District of Columbia.
